As I mention in this post, I hate crochet, always have. So I searched Etsy for ready-made doilies and lace tape instead ! There are a lot of shops selling doilies of all sizes and I got mine from this shop. Choose doilies of a diameter one to two inches bigger that the diameter of the stones you are planning to use.
So here are the supplies you need for this project :
And some heavy duty or embroidery thread and a suitable needle.
The name of the game is to secure the doilies or the lace tapes onto stones in a way that makes it look like the doilies were specially made for them. If you have enough material to round the edges of your stones cleanly, it might be enough to pass your thread around the outer edges of the doilies and to then draw it as tightly as possibly before tying a knot (see red thread below). Otherwise, you might need a fairly long thread to criss-cross the back of your stones with the thread until the doilies are taut.
All that is left to do is to arrange them on a nice timber bowl. The one I used was beautifully turned by my father-in-law.
Voila! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

Wow! I love the contrast in textures…the smooth dark stones…the handmade, soft white/light crochet. It is beautiful. I have many small white coasters my father (now passed away) crocheted for me, I would love to memorialize one like that. Thank you for the idea!
